Professor Raashid Luqmani qualified from Nottingham University in 1982 and completed his rheumatology training in Birmingham before moving to Edinburgh in 1994 as a Consultant, and then to Oxford in 2005. He became Professor of Rheumatology in 2010. He has a major clinical and research interest in systemic vasculitis. He has chaired the British Society for Rheumatology guidelines group for management of rheumatoid arthritis and currently chairs the BSR special interest group in vasculitis and co-chairs the OMERACT special interest group in vasculitis. He has research grants in vasculitis, he has published over 140 papers and edited 2 textbooks. He developed standardised structured clinical assessment tools to assess patients with vasculitis, which are now used in all major trials of therapy in vasculitis and has developed an extensive on line training programme for vasculitis assessment.
